In Latvia in October, the annual inflation was higher than the average in the European Union (EU) and the eurozone, according to data released on Wednesday by the EU statistical office 'Eurostat'.

The annual inflation in Latvia in October was 4.3%. The lowest inflation last month was recorded in Cyprus (0.2%), followed by France (0.8%), Italy (1.3%), and Finland (1.4%).

Only Romania (8.4%) and Estonia (4.5%) had higher annual inflation compared to Latvia. In Lithuania, the annual inflation was 3.7%.

On average, the annual inflation in the EU in October was 2.5%, while in the eurozone it was 2.1%.

Compared to September, consumer prices in October increased by 0.2% in both the EU and the eurozone.

In Latvia, as well as in Germany and Poland, consumer prices increased by 0.3% in October compared to September. Monthly inflation was recorded in 20 EU countries, with the highest being in Denmark and the Netherlands (both +0.6%). The most significant monthly deflation was recorded in Malta (-0.9%), while in Hungary, consumer prices remained unchanged month-on-month. In Lithuania, Estonia, France, Cyprus, Slovenia, and Slovakia, consumer prices increased by 0.1%.

'Eurostat' calculates inflation according to the agreed EU Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).
