On Wednesday morning, in many areas of Latvia, mainly in the central part of the country, Vidzeme, and Kurzeme, the roads are covered with snow and ice, reported the LETA agency from "Latvijas valsts ceļi".
Slippery sections of the roads are being cleared and treated with anti-icing materials. A total of 68 units of winter service equipment are involved in the road works.
Traffic conditions are difficult on the section of Tallinn Highway from Berģi to the Zvejniekciems station, on the sections of Vidzeme Highway from Riga to the turn to Rauna and from the turn to Alūksne to Veclīcene, as well as on the sections of Valmiera Highway from Murjani to Stalbe and from Strenči to Valka.
Traffic is also difficult on the Riga bypass road (Salaspils–Baltezers), the Riga bypass road (Salaspils–Babīte), on the section of Daugavpils Highway from Riga to Saulkalne, on Bauska Highway, Jelgava Highway, as well as on the section of Liepaja Highway from Riga to the Apšupe intersection, on the sections of Ventspils Highway from Riga to Kudra and from Strazde to Ventspils, as well as on the regional road Tīnūži–Koknese from Tīnūži to the turn to Skrīveri.
Overall, traffic on regional roads is difficult in the vicinity of Riga, Ogre, Jelgava, Bauska, Ventspils, Talsi, Limbazi, Cesis, Valka, and Alūksne.
Drivers are urged to take weather conditions into account when planning trips, allocate extra travel time, choose a speed appropriate to the road surface conditions, and maintain a safe distance.
