Once a favorite delicacy for us Latvians, the lamprey has transitioned to the category of exquisite dishes, suitable only for the table of a deputy or an administrator dealing with insolvency. And even then, only once a year on November 18.

A user on social media platform "X" with the nickname Rabarbarzs writes: "I remember a time when it cost 12 euros per kg in the store and it seemed expensive."

They respond:

  • A year ago it was 39, two years ago - 30. Apparently, the brutal excise on coal or carbon quotas...

  • It's a pity that the lampreys themselves don't know that.

  • Is gold not cheaper? (The author of the post replies that it is indeed.)

  • I remember the times when fishermen brought it to our homes in Cēsis for 5 lats per kilo.

  • Remember what the minimum/average salary was then.

  • At the central market - 49 euros per kilo. In a wooden bucket. But the bucket is not for sale.

  • We need to switch to caviar.
