After Saturday's rains, water levels are rising in Latvia's rivers — in some places in the west and central part of the country, it has risen by more than one meter, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC), reports LETA.
On Saturday, the most precipitation fell in the southwestern part of Vidzeme and in Zemgale. The highest amount of precipitation — 38 millimeters — was recorded in Riga, which is half of the monthly norm.
In the Lielupe River above Jelgava, the water level rose by about one meter, and in the Mūsa River near Bauska — by 1.1 meters. Additionally, in the rivers of the Lielupe basin — the Berze, Misa, and Svēte — the water level increased by about one meter.
In the upper reaches of the Ogre River, the water level rose by one meter, but it has slightly decreased over the past day. In the lower reaches of the Ogre, the water rose by 40–80 centimeters.
In the Little Jugla, the water level rose by half a meter, and in the Great Jugla — by more than one meter. In other rivers of Vidzeme, as well as in the rivers of Latgale, the increase in water level was less significant.
In the rivers of Kurzeme, the water level rose by about one meter in many places.
The water temperature in rivers, lakes, and the sea ranges from 7 to 10 degrees.
This week, rain is expected at times, and in some rivers, the rise in water level will continue, meteorologists predict.
