The priorities for the development of Riga should be closely linked to the quality of life, business environment, and attractiveness of the urban environment. In the TV24 program “In Focus: Economy,” the chairwoman of the Latvian Association of Rural Tourism “Lauku ceļotājs,” Asnate Ziemele, critically assessed the development of the capital's waterfront area, writes LA.LV.
“As a resident of Riga, I want to say that these investments, for example, in the waterfront, which we all like — it is completely empty, well, who will go there?” said Ziemele. According to her, there is potential for the development of various cafes and taverns on the waterfront on November 11, but the infrastructure features do not allow this.
“Dancers dance there on the platforms in the summer, but why couldn’t the Riga City Council lay cables, utilities, sewage, so that a cafe or tavern could be opened there, to bring the waterfront to life?” Ziemele noted.
She emphasized that such a situation is not typical for other capitals in the world: “In which country in the world, where a river flows through the city, is there an empty waterfront?”
