Due to the reconstruction works of the contact network on the Tukums line, from Friday, October 17, to November 5, train movement will be completely halted on the Asari–Kemeri section, representatives of JSC "Latvijas dzelzceļš" (LDz) informed journalists on Tuesday, LETA reports.
On this section, passenger transportation will be organized by buses, and the total number of train trips will be reduced during this period.
LDz informs that the second phase of construction works as part of the electrified network modernization will begin on October 17. Until the end of April 2026, certain sections of the tracks will be periodically closed, and train movement will be limited.
Train services on the Riga–Dubulti and Dubulti–Riga routes will continue at the usual pace during the repairs: during peak hours, trains will run approximately every 15 minutes, and at other times — every 30 minutes.
The intensity of train traffic on the Dubulti–Sloka section will be reduced to one trip per hour instead of two. Train services to Tukums will remain at the previous volume.
As representatives of JSC "Pasažieru vilciens" (PV) added, from October 17 to November 5, trains from Riga Central Station will only run to the Asari station. On the Asari–Kemeri section, passengers will be transported by buses, and on the Kemeri–Tukums II section — again by trains.
The company emphasizes that the journey from Tukums II station to Riga will take about half an hour longer. Primarily, passengers between Tukums I and Tukums II stations will be transported by trains; however, in certain cases, buses may be used instead.
It is also reported that buses on the Tukums line will make five stops. The stops at Asari, Sloka, and Kemeri stations will be located at the station buildings. The "Vaivari" stop will be at the existing city bus stops near the National Rehabilitation Center "Vaivari" on Asaru Avenue, and the "Kudra" stop will be at the existing regional bus stops "Kudra" on the Ventspils Highway (A10).
PV emphasizes that the bus schedule will be coordinated with train movements in Kemeri and Asari. Tickets purchased for trains will be valid for travel on buses. However, the transportation of bicycles and strollers on buses will not be possible, so PV urges the use of regional public transport where such options are available.
At the same time, the Road Transport Administration (ATD) plans to organize an additional regional bus route Dubulti–Tukums during the repair works, which will be coordinated with train movements.
During the third phase of construction works, tentatively scheduled from November 6 to December 10, the intensity of train movement on the Majori–Sloka section will be reduced. Alongside trains on this section, bus services will be available to passengers.
LDz emphasizes that the completion of the modernization of the contact network on the Tukums line from Imanta to Sloka is planned for the first half of 2026. The works will be carried out in stages, and different restrictions on train movement will be introduced at each stage.
Also, as part of the project, works will be carried out to reconstruct the contact network and signaling subsystems on the Riga–Zemitani section. Initially, from October 17, changes in train movements were planned on the Valga and Skulte lines, including the closure of one track on the Zemitani–Chiekurkalns section until November 21. However, as clarified by LDz representatives, these changes will not take effect yet.
As previously reported, LDz has begun implementing the project for the modernization of the electrified railway network, as most of the contact network has already exceeded its technical service life.
The project includes the reconstruction of the contact network and signaling on the Riga–Zemitani, Zasulauks–Bolderaja, and Imanta–Sloka sections.
The works will be organized in stages, including in the evening and night hours, and at certain periods they will affect the schedule of passenger trains.
The project plans the electrification and modernization of railway lines with a total length of about 100 kilometers.
LETA previously reported that as early as Thursday, October 16, due to repair works, changes in train movements towards Tukums are in effect. One track is closed on the Dubulti–Sloka section, the PV schedule has been changed, and the intensity of movement has been reduced. Between the stations "Tukums 1" and "Tukums 2", passengers are transported by buses on some routes.
LDz is the managing public railway infrastructure and the parent company of the LDz group.
The PV company was established in 2001 to separate internal passenger transportation from other functions of "Latvijas dzelzceļš". Previously, PV was 100% owned by LDz, but in October 2008 it was transformed into a state enterprise.
