According to the Central Statistical Bureau, at the end of August this year, there were 39,251 individuals with low-income status in Latvia, which is 3.6% less than at the end of January 2025.
Thus, at the end of August this year, 2.15% of the total population in the country had the status of a low-income individual.
At the same time, at the end of August, there were 18,552 low-income individuals in the country, which is 8.4% less than at the end of January. The share of low-income individuals from the total population at the end of August was 1.01%.
The income threshold for low-income households is set at 50% of the median income. In 2025, the income threshold for a low-income household for the first or only household member is 377 euros, and for other household members – 264 euros.
In turn, each local authority has the right to set the income threshold for low-income households at no more than 80% of the median income, but not lower than the income threshold for low-income households.
The maximum amount of the income threshold for a low-income household for the first or only household member may be 604 euros, and for other household members – 423 euros.
