Union leader on prices for basic food products.
Let us remind you: starting from July next year, as the Minister of Finance said, an experiment will begin - a reduced VAT rate of 12% will be introduced for bread, milk, eggs, and poultry meat. The question is whether this will lead to a decrease in the cost of these products.
The leader of the Free Trade Union Union, Egils Baldzens, suggested in an interview with TV-24 to use the experience from the time of Karlis Ulmanis, when a "maximum allowable margin" was introduced.
"For example, the seller's profit cannot exceed 20 percent. So that something goes to the producer as well. I think this would be more correct than trying to run around stores, checking, controlling whether all sellers have lowered their prices. Otherwise, we will return to the times of barracks socialism," noted the union leader.
