In September of this year, the annual inflation in Latvia was 4.1%, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau.
In September 2025, compared to September 2024, the greatest influence on the change in the average level of consumer prices was the increase in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.8 percentage points). Significant influence was also exerted by housing-related goods and services (+0.7 percentage points), transport goods and services (+0.3 percentage points), as well as alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (+0.3 percentage points).
In the group of food and non-alcoholic beverages, prices increased by 6.8% over the year.
The greatest influence on the increase in the average price level in this group over the year was the price of coffee (+35.1%). Prices for poultry meat (+20.8%), chocolate (+24%), eggs (+18.9%), butter (+19.7%), beef (+27.5%), and fruit and vegetable juices (+8.3%) also rose.
Some items became cheaper. For example, fresh vegetables (-2.4%), sugar (-12.5%), fresh and chilled fish (-7.7%), potatoes (-3.4%), and olive oil (-5.1%).
Tobacco products increased in price by an average of 9.6% over the year, while alcoholic beverages rose by 0.8% due to the increase in the prices of strong alcoholic drinks and wine. At the same time, beer became cheaper.
There was a significant increase in electricity prices over the year (+10.8%). The cost of housing maintenance services increased (+7.8%), natural gas (+10.9%), and housing maintenance and repair services (+12.3%). Heating (-4.5%) and solid fuel (-4.1%) became cheaper.
The average price level for restaurant and hotel services increased by 5.7% over the year. The cost of catering services rose, including a price increase for restaurant and café services - by 4.5%, cafeteria services - by 6%, and fast food establishments - by 7%. Hotel services increased in price by 9.6% over the year.
