Britons Will Not Be Able to Legally End Their Lives Due to 'Frustrating' Failure

In the UK, the euthanasia bill in England and Wales has effectively failed after it did not manage to pass parliamentary review. This is reported by Bloomberg.

It is worth noting that, unlike assisted suicide, euthanasia does not necessarily imply an incurable illness of the person. Both practices are currently permitted only in a small number of European countries.

The document that provided for the possibility of assisted dying in Britain for terminally ill patients was passed in the House of Commons in June last year, but faced significant resistance in the House of Lords.

There, more than 1,000 amendments were made to it, and the discussion covered only part of the 59 points.

The bill's author, Labour MP Kim Leadbeater, stated that the failure of the initiative is 'frustrating' and is a result of procedural delays rather than the substance of the document. Labour's Charlie Falconer also criticized the situation, noting that the bill was not rejected due to its content, but 'sank in procedural disputes.'

'I am disheartened that this bill, so important to many, failed not because of its substance, but as a result of procedural wrangling,' he said.

As Parliament prepares for a new session starting on May 13, there is no time left for further consideration.
