Georgian Sophie Beridze, who has called Latvia her home for the past few months, has faced a serious blow — her visa has been revoked, which the trans woman reported on her social media.
Sophie stated that she does not intend to quietly pack her bags and leave; she will fight until the end.
“Starting today, my visa has been revoked and I am an illegal immigrant in Latvia. I have spent a huge amount of money, time, and a lot of my resources to somehow manage to legalize myself here. I also rented an apartment here,” she said.
The revocation of her visa was an unexpected event.
“Today, I went to the migration service (Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs) with a bit of a ‘panic’ to clarify some questions. I showed my ‘crocodile tears’ because I am really in a very unpleasant situation. They handed me some paper, saying that if I sign it, I will be able to stay in Latvia for another 20 days and during this time do something.”
Sophie mentioned that she could take advantage of a so-called visa run — leave and return for another 90 days. But she does not want to live out of a suitcase. She wants to legalize herself and is not going to give up.
“For my freedom, for my right to exist, I will fight with my teeth,” Beridze promises.
Sophie also reported that if World War III does not start, she will learn the Latvian language and obtain Latvian citizenship, or at least permanent residency.
