Pharmacist Williams: Electronic cigarettes may increase the risk of aggressive cancer.
Pharmacist and expert from the organization for pancreatic cancer prevention Ada Williams assessed the impact that smoking regular and electronic cigarettes, as well as chewing tobacco, have on the development of this oncological disease. Her words are cited by the Daily Mail.
"We know that smoking is a risk factor for many types of cancer, but in the case of the pancreas, the likelihood increases by about two times," noted Williams.
The expert added that the use of chewing tobacco may have a similar effect on the pancreas as smoking. According to her, some studies have found such a connection, but these are not definitive conclusions. The impact of electronic cigarettes still needs to be assessed, but there are reasons to believe that some compounds in them may be carcinogenic, the pharmacist clarified.
