Ticks become active in March with the arrival of warmth.
Ticks begin to wake up in the spring when there are still snowdrifts. This usually happens in March, said Elena Meskina, a specialist in infectious diseases in children, in a conversation.
According to her, the risk of a tick bite in early spring is minimal, as people are warmly dressed. However, there is still a possibility, as ticks can crawl under clothing. In this regard, Meskina named ways to protect against bites from these arthropods.
First of all, upon returning home after long walks in parks or working with bushes outside the city, it is necessary to take off all clothing and inspect the body. "Particular attention should be paid to hairy parts of the body, the neck, and the ears. It is even better if someone else checks you," the specialist said.
If a tick is found, it is recommended to submit it to a laboratory for examination, and the person should be monitored for symptoms of infections: fever, weakness, aches, redness at the bite site, and swollen lymph nodes.
The doctor added that a tick that has attached itself should not be pulled out by oneself — this should be done by a medical professional.
