"Reality is Collapsing": Kristen Stewart Contemplates Moving from the U.S. Due to Trump's Policies

American actress and director Kristen Stewart admitted that she is increasingly contemplating life outside the U.S. According to her, the political situation in the country causes her deep disappointment and a sense of loss of freedom. The star spoke about this in an interview with The Times, reflecting on her new phase in her career.

Directorial Debut and Inability to Film in the U.S.

Recently, Stewart presented her first feature film as a director — "The Chronology of Water", which was filmed in Latvia. The actress emphasized that she would not have been able to realize this project on U.S. soil. In her opinion, the current political and economic decisions make independent filmmaking nearly impossible.

Criticism of Tariffs and Pressure on Independent Cinema

Stewart is particularly outraged by the tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump administration on films made outside of America. The actress believes that such measures stifle creative freedom and limit artists in their choice of forms and themes.

"Reality is completely collapsing under Trump. But we should follow his logic and create the reality in which we want to live," Stewart stated.

Future Outside America

Currently, the actress lives between Los Angeles and New York, however, when asked if she sees her future tied to the U.S., Stewart admitted that she does not feel optimistic. At the same time, she emphasizes that she does not intend to give up her profession and plans to work actively in Europe.

According to the actress, she intends to make films outside the U.S. so that, as she put it, she can "impose them on the American audience," maintaining creative independence and her own voice.
