A resident of China gave birth to a son at the age of 59.
A resident of the Chinese city of Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu province has set a local record by becoming the oldest mother to give birth. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.
The patient, surnamed Zou, who is 59 years old, successfully gave birth to a son via cesarean section after undergoing IVF. This is her second child. The woman decided to take this step as she was suffering from loneliness: her adult daughter lives abroad.
The pregnancy was difficult: the patient experienced high blood pressure, kidney problems, and severe swelling in her legs. Doctors closely monitored her condition and performed the surgery at 33 weeks and 5 days (a pregnancy is considered full-term from 37 to 41 weeks — ed.). "She is a brave mother who accepted this daunting challenge," said midwife Guo Huiping, who assisted in the delivery.
In December, it was reported that a woman in China became pregnant at the age of 62. The elderly woman lost her only son in January 2025 and decided to become a mother again at all costs.
