The Secret of the Blue Glasses Behind Which Macron Hid His Red Eye Revealed

"Due to a minor eye issue," Emmanuel Macron appeared at the World Economic Forum in Davos wearing aviator glasses — and it played into the hands of Henry Jullien. On the same day, the website of the French luxury brand could not handle the influx of visitors and went down.

The French president chose the Pacific S 01 model with blue mirrored lenses and a gold-plated frame costing €659. Riding the wave of success, the brand created a temporary page on its website dedicated solely to this model.

It takes up to four months to make one pair: the glasses are handcrafted using traditional gilding techniques at the factory in Lons-le-Saunier, and the lenses are produced in the Jura region by Dalloz in Saint-Claude. This fact — that the glasses are entirely made in France — won Macron over a few years ago.

"He did not accept them as a gift. He insisted on buying them himself," explained Stefano Fulchir, the owner of iVision Tech.

In 2023, Fulchir acquired Henry Jullien, a company with over a century of history, while retaining the production facility in the Franche-Comté region.

Aerospace steel, gold, titanium — the Henry Jullien eyewear brand combines innovation and the traditions of handcrafting, for which it was awarded the EPV (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, "living heritage company") in 2018. This award is given to companies with deep roots in France, possessing advanced technologies, patents, and historical archives.
