Lancet: paracetamol use is not associated with the risk of developing autism.

Researchers conducted a study and provided an answer regarding whether there is a connection between paracetamol use by pregnant women and the risk of autism in their children. The results of the study were published in the journal Lancet.

As a result, it was stated that to date, when taken by pregnant women according to the instructions, there is no increased likelihood of developing autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or intellectual disability in children.

However, at the end of August 2025, a meta-analysis was published showing that children whose mothers took paracetamol during pregnancy are diagnosed with ASD or ADHD on average 20 percent more often, although with a larger confidence interval. However, no precise data was provided.
