Actor Daniel Stern, famous for his role as a thief in the movie "Home Alone," nearly ended up behind bars in real life. As reported by TMZ, Stern's name appeared in police reports. The star of the cult film was detained in connection with an alleged prostitution sting at a hotel in Camarillo, California. Details of the incident are unknown, but Stern managed to avoid serious reputational damage. Sources in law enforcement told the publication that the 68-year-old actor was only fined — he was not arrested or taken into custody.

In recent years, Daniel Stern has preferred not to attract the same attention as his colleagues from "Home Alone." When the 35th anniversary of the film was celebrated last month, Stern chose to skip the event.

"I don’t leave my farm," he explained to People on December 2. "It’s not against the film. I just… can answer a call, chat on Zoom, but… I’m a bit of a homebody.

Currently, in addition to his acting career, he is involved in writing, directing, and sculpting, and occasionally shares news about his works and personal projects on social media.

Stern was born in the suburb of Bethesda to a Jewish family; his parents are social workers; his younger brother is television writer David M. Stern. While in high school, he participated in several theatrical productions; at one of the Shakespeare festivals in Washington, he was involved as an extra in the production of "The Taming of the Shrew" featuring Glenn Close. In his senior year, he dropped out of high school and moved to New York, where he studied acting and later participated in theatrical productions on Broadway. His film debut was the role of Cyril in the Oscar-winning comedy by Peter Yates "Breaking Away" (1979).

As a director, he directed several episodes of the popular youth series "The Wonder Years" (1988–1993). He also served as the off-screen narrator in this series. Since 1979, he has played over 70 roles in film and television.

Since 1980, he has been married to Lori Matitos. He has two daughters, Ella and Sophie, and a son, Henry, who has been elected to the California State Senate since 2016.

In 2010, on the reality show Celebrity Ghost Stories, Daniel Stern stated that in 1980, during his honeymoon, he visited the English village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor and felt a strong influence of supernatural forces there, believing that all the locals are ghosts from the Great Storm of 1638. In response to this ambiguous statement, the official website of the village featured a page titled "Widecombe - Ghost Town?"
