Matt Damon Radically Lost Weight for the Role of Odysseus in Christopher Nolan's New Film

Hollywood actor Matt Damon spoke about the serious physical transformation he underwent for the lead role in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film "Odyssey." The premiere of the film is scheduled for July 17, 2026.

Matt Damon, one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors, has noticeably changed his appearance while working on Christopher Nolan's new project. For the role of the mythical hero Odysseus, the actor lost about 15 kilograms, returning to a weight that, according to him, he had only during his school years.

In an interview with the podcast New Heights, the actor admitted that the director set clear requirements for his physical shape. Nolan wanted to see Odysseus lean and resilient, but without an emphasis on excessive musculature. This required Damon to maintain strict discipline, engage in intensive training, and make serious dietary changes.

According to the actor, a key element of his preparation was a strict diet developed in collaboration with a doctor. In particular, he completely eliminated gluten from his diet. While his weight previously fluctuated between 84–91 kilograms, during filming it dropped to about 76 kg. Damon noted that the process was not easy, but the result justified the efforts — the actor stated that he feels better than ever.

Interestingly, after the filming period, Damon did not return to his previous lifestyle. Physical activity and balanced nutrition, he said, have become a permanent part of his daily routine, rather than a temporary measure for the role.
