Giant waves attract tourists to the Portuguese Nazaré, located on the Atlantic Ocean coast. Waves of 20 meters are expected here this weekend.

The Atlantic Ocean will be turbulent in the near future. In Nazaré, a small Portuguese town that has become a mecca for surfers, wave heights may exceed 20 meters by the end of the week. Meteorologists forecast strong gusty winds for the upcoming weekend. This could significantly complicate life for those brave enough to venture out to sea and surf.

The giant waves in Nazaré are created by a canyon located in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean - the largest underwater canyon in Europe. It is 200 kilometers long and 5,000 meters deep. Surfers say that there are no waves like those in Nazaré anywhere else in the world.

But it’s not just athletes that are attracted to this fishing town. Thousands of tourists come here to watch the massive torrents of water roll in and crash against the shore. The best time to see the big waves in Nazaré is from October to February.
