Why Drivers Become Aggressive: A Mirror of Inner State

Many of us have encountered aggressive behavior on the roads — loud honking, abrupt maneuvers, shouts from car windows. But behind the outbursts of irritation often lies not just a breach of courtesy rules, but a reflection of a person's internal tension.

Psychologist Elena Ilyina notes that road aggression is not a coincidence, but a projection of personal experiences and problems.

When a person experiences stress, fatigue, dissatisfaction, or a sense of injustice, any obstacle on the road becomes a trigger. Adrenaline, a sense of danger and urgency amplify the internal conflict, and accumulated emotions burst out.

Essentially, aggression behind the wheel is an indicator of overall psychological state. If a person’s life is filled with anxiety and irritation, the road only intensifies these emotions.

To reduce the level of aggression, it is important not only to follow traffic rules but also to take care of one’s emotional health — to rest, breathe mindfully, avoid rushing, and remember that every road user is experiencing their own day and their own difficulties.
