The neurologist cited emotional instability as the cause of sleep disorders in many modern individuals.
Neurologist and sleep specialist Inna Bogdanova identified the main reasons leading to sleep disorders in modern humans. "The main triggers of sleep disorders, especially in our time, are stress and emotional instability. Research shows that a tendency towards anxiety, depression, and mental disorders is closely related to insomnia; they also significantly worsen sleep quality," the neurologist warned.
Another common cause mentioned by the doctor is poor sleep hygiene and lifestyle. According to her, a meager breakfast, a late caloric dinner, the use of gadgets before sleep, bright lighting in the second half of the day, and lack of routine negatively affect falling asleep and sleep depth. In addition, harmful habits such as smoking, excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption, especially in the evening, make sleep shallow and fragmented.
Also, as the doctor noted, cardiovascular diseases, endocrine disorders (such as diabetes, thyrotoxicosis), and bronchial asthma can provoke sleep disorders. Hormonal changes in women during pregnancy, menopause, and premenstrual syndrome also affect sleep quality. "Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, snoring, and restless legs syndrome are common causes of nighttime awakenings and daytime drowsiness," the neurologist added.
