The number of requests for such procedures has increased by 25%.
Due to the fear of losing their jobs, "techies" are getting facelifts — all because technology companies prefer to hire younger candidates.
The WSJ reports that in the tech sector in the U.S., there is a stereotype that no one over 30 can be hired. Therefore, according to plastic surgeons, men are spending thousands of dollars on mini-facelifts, neck lifts, and eyelid surgeries to eliminate signs of aging:
"Our society has traditionally put more pressure on women to look young, but now everyone feels it — especially in Silicon Valley, where you start to be labeled as 'outdated' if you look old," said Timothy Marten, a plastic surgeon from San Francisco.
The number of requests for such procedures among men in California has increased by 25% compared to the pre-pandemic period, and the number of surgeries has risen by 50%. According to surgeons, by the age of 30, men are more likely to choose non-surgical methods, such as Botox injections and fillers, while by 40, they are already opting for surgical interventions.
Dr. Ben Talley from Beverly Hills, whose comprehensive facelift and neck lift services cost between $125,000 and $150,000, told reporters that in the last five years, demand from men in the tech sector has increased fivefold.
His colleague from San Francisco, Dr. Andrew Barnett, claims that the number of requests for facelifts from IT professionals has jumped by 25% compared to pre-COVID times, and requests for eyelid surgeries have surged by 50%. He sees the greatest increase among men in venture capital and private equity firms.
