Cravings for sweets may indicate a deficiency in magnesium or chromium.
Strong cravings for certain foods may indicate deficiencies in beneficial nutrients or certain diseases, said therapist Regina Sadikova.
"Our needs for certain vitamins or minerals can manifest in the desire to eat a specific product. If a person often craves sweets, it may indicate a deficiency in magnesium or chromium, as these minerals are involved in the functioning of the brain's pleasure centers," the doctor noted.
Sadikova added that cravings for salty foods often result from stress or adrenal fatigue. Additionally, it can occur when a person loses a lot of sodium due to physical activity.
To overcome strong cravings for certain foods, the doctor urged a balanced diet and the consumption of many foods rich in fiber, as it improves intestinal function. It is also important to include probiotics and prebiotics in the diet: the former help restore intestinal functions, while the latter are necessary for the reproduction of beneficial bacteria.
