Doctor Kokin urged caution if arrhythmia after meals is accompanied by shortness of breath.
Sometimes, arrhythmia occurring after meals can be the first signal of disorders in the cardiovascular and nervous systems, warned candidate of medical sciences, cardiologist Evgeny Kokin.
Kokin stated that most often, arrhythmia during or after meals is simply a physiological feature of the body. However, he urged caution if this symptom is accompanied by dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, or loss of consciousness. "Recurring episodes of rapid heartbeat after each meal worsen the quality of life and signal deep rhythm disturbances. This is a reason to immediately consult a doctor," emphasized the cardiologist.
According to him, atrial fibrillation after meals increases the risk of thrombosis and stroke, while ventricular arrhythmias, especially in people who have had a heart attack, can lead to sudden cardiac arrest. However, as the cardiologist noted, only a doctor can determine the type of pathology, who uses ECG, Holter monitoring, and blood electrolyte analysis for diagnosis.
