Saoirse Ronan to Play Linda McCartney at Age 31 in Beatles Biopic

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan will portray Linda McCartney, the wife of Sir Paul, in the upcoming four-part biographical film about The Beatles directed by Sam Mendes, Variety reports.

Ronan is a Golden Globe winner for her role in "Lady Bird." She has four Oscar nominations and five BAFTA nominations.

In the biopic, she will star alongside Paul Mescal, who will play Paul McCartney.

Linda and Paul married in 1969. She worked with him as a keyboardist and vocalist in his post-Beatles band Wings. Linda died of cancer in 1998 at the age of 56.

As for the other members of the "Fab Four," Harrison Dickinson will play John Lennon, Joseph Quinn will portray George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr. The remaining cast members have yet to be announced.

Ronan's acting debut (1994) came in 2003 in the Irish medical series "The Clinic." She made her film debut in "I Could Never Be Your Woman." Her breakthrough role was that of a precocious teenager in the drama "Atonement," which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her career progressed with leading roles as a murdered girl in the drama "The Lovely Bones" and a teenage assassin in the thriller "Hanna," as well as a baker in the dramedy "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Ronan received critical acclaim and Oscar nominations for Best Actress for her role as a homesick Irish immigrant in 1950s New York in the drama "Brooklyn," a high school graduate in Greta Gerwig's dramedy "Lady Bird," and Jo March in Gerwig's historical drama "Little Women." Ronan also won a Golden Globe for her role in "Lady Bird." She produced and starred in the drama "The Outrun."

On stage, Ronan played Abigail Williams in the revived production of "The Crucible" on Broadway and Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth" at the West End theater. In 2016, Ronan was twice named in Forbes' 30 Under 30 list. In 2020, The New York Times ranked her tenth in its list of the greatest actors of the 21st century.
