Most people gain confidence when they have a pet. But dogs not only bring joy to their owners; they also help make new acquaintances.
How a Dog Changes Its Owner's Social Life
Employees of the children's TV channel "Boomerang" conducted a survey among 2000 dog owners and found that pets positively influence their owners' social activity, reports The Sun.
- Eight out of ten respondents believe that a dog should have its own friends among other animals.
- Many people gain new acquaintances along with their pets — usually, these are other dog owners.
- Even less sociable owners find on average four new friends after getting a pet.
More Confidence and Communication
More than half of the study participants (54%) admitted that they felt more confident after getting a dog. It is now easier for them to strike up a conversation even with strangers.
New acquaintances most often occur:
- during walks with their pets;
- at dog shows and other events dedicated to animals.
Why Dogs Help Find Friends
According to animal behavior specialist Nick Jones, a dog is a great reason to meet new people.
- Long walks with pets not only improve physical fitness but also help maintain mental health.
- Communicating with other dog owners reduces stress levels and strengthens the sense of community.
A dog becomes not just a friend to its owner, but also a bridge to new acquaintances and a more active social life.
