Bright red palms may indicate liver problems.
The main danger of liver pathologies lies in the fact that they often progress asymptomatically in the early stages. Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic in the USA told Surrey Live about the changes on the hands that may indicate problems with this organ.
According to specialists, the appearance of bright red spots on the palms, which do not hurt, itch, or flake, can indicate liver disease. Statistics show that this symptom appears in about 23 percent of patients with cirrhosis, alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver disease.
Another alarming sign that doctors consider is the so-called Terry's nails — nails that are intensely white with a thin brown, red, or pink zone along the outer edge. "People with Terry's nails do not have a lunula at the cuticle. Instead, almost the entire nail appears discolored," the experts warned. Additionally, in liver pathologies, one or all nails may appear swollen, resembling a sponge or an inverted spoon; they thicken and become distorted.
Other characteristic symptoms of problems include changes in skin color and the appearance of spider veins on the hands as well as on the neck, face, shoulders, and back.
