Director Emerald Fennell, known for the films 'Promising Young Woman' and 'Saltburn', may take on a new project in the 'Basic Instinct' franchise. This was reported by Variety, citing screenwriter Joe Esterhazy.
It was Esterhazy who wrote the original 1992 film, giving audiences the iconic character of Catherine Tramell. In an interview, he stated that producers are in talks with Fennell about directing a potential sequel or reboot — a sort of 'Basic Instinct 3'. According to him, Emerald's creative intuition and boldness are perfect for the project.
For now, the film remains in the rumor stage, but if Fennell does get involved, one can confidently expect a much bolder and modern interpretation of the cult thriller.
