Tom Hanks will play the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, in the film 'Lincoln in the Bardo' produced by Starburns Industries. The film is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by George Saunders, which won the 2017 Booker Prize.
Lincoln entered history by abolishing slavery and leading the United States during the Civil War. Filming will take place in London.
Saunders is adapting his novel for the big screen himself, with Oscar-nominated Duke Johnson (Anomalisa) serving as director and producer.
The film will use a unique combination of stop-motion animation and live action to depict one of the most intimate moments in Lincoln's life, focusing on his relationship with his recently deceased 11-year-old son. The film explores themes of love, empathy, and the human capacity to cope with grief through the lens of an ensemble of characters—both living and dead, historical and fictional.
