Following the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, the most famous Latvian composer (and possibly the most famous Latvian in the world) was congratulated by another president – the Russian one.
A telegram was sent to Raimonds Pauls in Moscow (did it arrive?). It states:
“Dear Raimonds Voldemarovich, I sincerely congratulate you on your 90th birthday.
Both in Russia and in many other countries, you are known and genuinely loved as a talented pianist and composer. Today, just as decades ago, your works are performed by masters of the stage and young artists, featured in films and theatrical productions, and rightfully enjoy the widest popularity.
I wish you good health, mental well-being, prosperity, and many years of life.
Sincerely, Vladimir Putin.”
As reported by bb.lv, one of the first to congratulate the Maestro on his 90th anniversary was the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs.
