The 'Twilight' star is ready to return to the vampire melodrama as a director.
After a successful directorial debut with the biographical drama 'The Chronology of Water,' which was released in limited North American theaters in December 2025, Kristen Stewart unexpectedly expressed her willingness to dive back into the universe of the iconic vampire saga 'Twilight,' which once made her a global star.
On the red carpet at the Palm Springs Film Festival, while presenting 'The Chronology of Water,' the actress and director reflected in a conversation with media representatives about the possibility of returning to her past projects, but in a new role.
'I love what each of the directors did with these films,' said the Oscar-nominated actress, referring to Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz, David Slade, and Bill Condon. 'But they were so sincere, quirky, strange, and real at a time when they didn’t really know what they were about.'
Stewart's reflections then turned into confidence: 'You know, imagine if we had a big budget and full support... I would love to take on a new adaptation. Yes, of course, I would do a remake of 'Twilight.' I’m ready, I’m in!'
The audience for such a project undoubtedly exists. A recent re-release of the first part of 'Twilight' for the 20th anniversary of Stephenie Meyer's book grossed an impressive $1.55 million on its opening day. The entire franchise, whose worldwide box office has exceeded $3.3 billion, remains one of the most profitable teen sagas in history.
Kristen Stewart's possible return to the franchise, but as a director, would be one of the most high-profile and symbolic 'comebacks' in modern cinema.
