Composer and pianist Raimonds Pauls turns 90 today, and in honor of this anniversary, a special event dedicated to the maestro will take place.
A ceremonial event is organized in a small circle of invited guests in accordance with the wishes of the maestro. During the event, gratitude will be expressed to Pauls for his contribution to the cultural environment of Latvia.
"Latvian culture is unthinkable without the compositions created by Raimonds Pauls, and this event serves as a tribute of respect and gratitude for his work," emphasized a representative of the event organizer.
Raimonds Pauls was born on January 12, 1936, in Riga. His creativity spans several musical genres, primarily the song genre, as well as music for theater, cinema, and musical theater. Pauls is an icon of Latvian culture, whose melodies have gained wide recognition far beyond Latvia.
The maestro was the musical director, chief conductor, and pianist of the Riga Variety Orchestra, founded and led the vocal-instrumental ensemble "Modo," and worked at Latvian radio and television, where he directed professional musical groups and music program editorial offices.
In addition to his creative activities, Pauls held administrative and political positions: he was the chairman of the State Committee for Culture of the Latvian SSR, Minister of Culture of Latvia, cultural advisor to the president, and a member of the Saeima.
For his contributions to culture, Pauls has been awarded several high honors. On November 18, 2025, he was awarded the Order of the Three Stars, 1st class.
