The most well-known animal that does not drink water is the marsupial koala. It obtains moisture exclusively from eucalyptus leaves and only in rare cases, such as during severe drought or illness, may lick dew from the trunks of trees.

Sloths in South America also rely on moisture from leaves. Some species of tree rats, tiger salamanders living in arid areas of America, and the sand rat, a small rodent, also do not need water.
