Research in the field of reproductive and therapeutic cloning began at the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering in Belarus in 2026.
Work is being conducted at the laboratory of molecular biology and cell biotechnology as part of the state program for scientific research "Genome, Molecule, and Cell."
The project is dedicated to the development of biotechnological foundations for obtaining pluripotent cells and female gametes of mice with donor nuclei. These studies are viewed as a key step for the further development of cloning technologies, the institute's press service reported.
For the first time in the republic, it is planned to create technological platforms that may eventually be used for cloning pets and preserving rare animal breeds. Additionally, these platforms will enable the production of lines of embryonic stem cells, which will find applications in scientific research and diagnostics.
