This bird reaches a height of up to 115 cm and a wingspan of about 2.8 meters. Its characteristic 'rusty' color is associated with bathing in iron-rich mud, which can serve both as a demonstration of strength and protection against bacteria.

Previously, bearded vultures inhabited mountainous regions of Europe and Asia, but today their range has significantly decreased, limited to the Pyrenees, Sierra Nevada, and some Mediterranean islands.

These scavengers primarily feed on bones, which make up to 90% of their diet. Bearded vultures have powerful claws and strong gastric acid that allow them to extract nutrients from bone marrow.

Interestingly, in Spanish, they are called 'quebrantahuesos', which translates to 'bone-breaker'.
