Expert Advises Choosing a Spruce Based on the Cut of the Trunk 0 12

This was reported by engineer Galina Khrenova. According to her, one of the key signs of the freshness of the tree is the color of the cut. If it remains light, it means the spruce was cut relatively recently.

The expert also recommended carefully inspecting the branches. Dry and easily breakable shoots indicate that the tree has long lost moisture. Fresh spruce branches should be flexible and resilient, without signs of drying out.

Another way to check is to lightly strike the trunk against the ground. If the needles start to fall off actively during this, it is better to avoid such a purchase. On a recently cut tree, the needles hold firmly and do not fall off when shaken.

Khrenova advised assessing the smell of the spruce as well. For this, it is enough to crush the needles in your hands: a fresh tree will have a rich and pleasant aroma. If the needles look dull, have a grayish tint, and hardly smell, this may indicate that the spruce was cut a long time ago.
