Foods that many choose for breakfast due to a lack of time can negatively affect concentration ability throughout the day. This was stated by psychiatrist D. Amen in an interview with Metropoles.
According to the specialist, people with busy work schedules often prefer ready-made and sweet options for their morning meal. These include dry cereals, oatmeal with added sugar, granola bars, and other products high in fast carbohydrates.
Amen noted that sugar and foods that quickly convert to it in the body are an unfortunate choice for starting the day. Initially, such a breakfast does provide a feeling of alertness and energy boost, but this effect does not last long.
After a brief surge of energy, as the doctor explained, difficulties with concentration and a feeling of distraction arise. These conditions, he said, can persist throughout the day. In this regard, the psychiatrist recommended avoiding sweet foods as the first meal of the day.
