How to Cook Perfect Rice: Tips from Chef Jamie Oliver

Rice occupies a significant place in the diet of many people, but not everyone manages to cook it correctly. The famous British chef Jamie Oliver shared secrets that will help you make perfect rice.

 

Jamie Oliver claims that the first thing to understand is the correct proportions of water to rice. The problem is that different varieties of rice require different amounts of liquid. The chef assures that his method allows you not to worry about this and is suitable for most types of rice.

“Put a large pot of salted water on the heat and wait for it to boil. Rice should definitely be rinsed under running water until it becomes clear. This helps remove any impurities and some of the starch, preventing it from sticking and clumping. I prefer to use a colander for this,” shares the famous chef.

Then Oliver adds the rice to the boiling water and waits for the grains to start floating around. From this point, the rice should be cooked for 5 minutes, reports the online publication The Mirror.

“Exactly five minutes later, drain the rice in a colander and cover it with foil or a lid of the appropriate size to keep it warm. In the empty pot, pour in 2.5 centimeters of water, bring it to a boil, and place the colander with the rice on top. The rice should be cooked in a ‘water bath’ for 8-10 minutes. Then remove it and enjoy the excellent result!” recommends the chef.

For those who master his method, Jamie Oliver advises trying to experiment and add natural flavorings to the side dish that will give it a special taste. You can add your favorite aromatic herbs, a cinnamon stick, or a strip of lemon zest to the water with the rice.
