Nutritionist Ginzburg Debunks the Myth About the Role of Water in Weight Loss

Weight will drop if you drink more water—that's what some people trying to lose weight think.

Nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg explained that water is indeed important for health, but one should not expect miracles from it when it comes to weight loss.

How Water Helps the Body

Water helps maintain metabolism, eliminate waste products, and prevent overeating, while good hydration promotes better digestion, dilutes stomach contents, and helps enzymes work more effectively. However, neither cold nor warm water can replace food and does not directly participate in fat burning.

Is It Necessary to Drink Water on an Empty Stomach in the Morning

Many believe that a glass of warm water in the morning kick-starts metabolism. But, as the nutritionist emphasized, this habit is not considered mandatory. Metabolism reacts insignificantly to water. Adding lemon, by the way, does not change the situation.

How Much Water to Drink in a Day

The average fluid intake for an adult is calculated using the formula: 30–35 ml per kilogram of body weight.

If you are actively training, drinking a lot of strong tea or coffee, then add another 0.5–1 liter of fluids—not just water, but also compotes, fruit drinks, homemade lemonades without excess sugar, and natural juices.
