A Mercedes car caught fire on Tallinn Highway near Baltezers while in motion, with a family and a small child inside. Fortunately, all passengers managed to escape the vehicle before the flames engulfed the car.
The incident occurred in the afternoon near the bus stop "Ādažu sanatorija." Due to the incident, a traffic jam formed on the busy section of Tallinn Highway, and traffic had to be organized in one lane.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started while the car was in motion. The driver noticed the problem and managed to pull over, stopping the car near the public transport stop.
Inside the car were a man, a woman, and a preschool-aged child. All of them were able to exit the vehicle on their own and grab the most essential items before the fire spread through the car.
Residents of nearby houses reported that thick smoke was visible from a distance.
"I heard a noise, looked out, and saw huge clouds of smoke. While the car was burning, there were popping sounds — likely the tires bursting," a local resident told the Degpunktā program (TV3).
Eyewitnesses paid special attention to the actions of the Military Police officers who were nearby and quickly took control of the situation.
Before the arrival of firefighters and State Police officers, the military personnel cordoned off the dangerous area and ensured the safety of road users. According to local residents, the prompt response helped prevent additional risks for drivers and pedestrians.
Car fires while in motion are most often related to technical malfunctions; however, the exact cause of the fire in this case will need to be determined by specialists.
The main thing is that as a result of the incident, no one inside the car was injured.
The case in Baltezers once again highlights how important it is to immediately stop the car and exit at the first signs of fire, without attempting to fight the rapidly spreading flames on your own.
