After reports of potential aerial threats, many residents are wondering what to do if there is no shelter nearby or it is inaccessible. According to Lithuanian drone expert Sharunas Jasikavicius, the main rule in such a situation is not to remain without shelter.

The topic of civil safety has once again come to the forefront following warnings about potential aerial threats. People are concerned about how safe it is to stay at home and where to go if the nearest shelter is closed or too far away.

Drone expert Sharunas Jasikavicius emphasized in a program on the tv3.lt portal that when choosing a place for shelter, it is important to follow a simple principle: any shelter is better than none.

According to him, the ideal option is a specially equipped concrete shelter located underground and equipped with autonomous life support systems. However, in a real situation, most people may not have such an opportunity.

In this case, one should seek any available protection. The expert notes that even a depression in the ground is safer than being in an open space. If there is a choice between open terrain and some structure, preference should always be given to shelter.

He paid special attention to those who are at home. If the building has a basement, it is best to go down there. In the absence of a basement, it is recommended to choose a room deep within the building, away from windows and exterior walls.

"If there is no basement, it is better to be inside the building, in a room with internal walls and partitions, where there are no windows and open spaces," Jasikavicius explained.

For residents of multi-storey buildings, the expert advises moving to the lower floors if possible. According to him, during attacks, the upper floors and the roof of the building are usually at the greatest risk.

He also emphasized that one of the most common mistakes is underestimating the danger and remaining in open territory.

"The worst option is to simply stand in an open space and wait for something to fall from the sky," the expert stated.

The issue of shelter availability remains relevant for many settlements. Therefore, specialists recommend thinking in advance about where to take cover at home, at work, or on the way, so as not to search for a safe place at the last moment.

The expert's main conclusion is simple: during an aerial threat, it is important to get under protection as quickly as possible, even if it is not an ideal shelter, but the safest available place nearby.
