The Patent Office of Latvia to Launch Campaign Against Fake Toys
On June 11 at 16:00, the Patent Office of Latvia will open an informational campaign "Fake Toys = Dangerous Play" at the Agenskalns market in Riga, the agency LETA was informed by the office.
This year, the campaign is dedicated to the dangers of fake toys. The organizers intend to explain to residents how to protect themselves from purchasing counterfeit products and what signs can help identify fakes.
During the event, visitors will learn about the current situation regarding the spread of counterfeits in Latvia and worldwide, as well as trends in the fake goods market. Guests will be shown confiscated fakes by the Customs Board of the State Revenue Service, including a children's quad bike.
The event will feature the director of the Patent Office, Agris Batalauzkis, the deputy director of the Consumer Rights Protection Center, Linda Rinkule, customs experts from the State Revenue Service, and content creator Kristine Beitika.
Creative workshops will be organized for children, where they can make their own kite and assemble the Latvian constructor "Knop-Knop," which has received an international patent and a European patent.
The Patent Office notes that toys remain one of the most frequently counterfeited categories of goods. This is confirmed by both data from the Latvian customs and the results of international operations.
For instance, during Operation "Ludus," coordinated by Europol and the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) in 2025, over 7.8 million toys were confiscated. A significant portion of these turned out to be fakes or products unsafe for children.
According to the office, toys regularly account for a significant share of seized counterfeit goods in Latvia, consistently ranking among the top five most common categories of counterfeits.
In 2025, 4,079 units of counterfeit toys were seized in Latvia, accounting for 17.11% of the total amount of confiscated counterfeits.
