The damage caused by drones does not require the creation of a separate compensation system, said the new Minister of Finance Maris Kučinskis to LTV.

According to Kučinskis, Latvia already has a mechanism to assist residents whose property has been damaged as a result of various emergencies or extraordinary situations. In such cases, the affected individuals turn to their local government.

The minister noted that the damage caused by drones is essentially no different from the consequences of other incidents — for example, floods or other natural disasters that harm private property. Therefore, there is no need to create a separate compensation system specifically for such cases.

In the politician's opinion, proposals to introduce a special support mechanism are more of an electoral nature.

It should be noted that previously the government held a different view — even in the government declaration, there was a recorded intention to compensate for the damage that could be caused by potential drone falls on various objects in Latvia.

"We will develop a compensation mechanism to cover the damage caused by unmanned aerial vehicles," the Kuldbergs government declaration states.

According to current legislation, since a state of emergency has not been declared, the government is not obligated to compensate anyone.
