On Tuesday, residents of the Ludza and Kraslava regions received mobile alert warnings about a possible threat in the airspace again. The National Armed Forces urged people to stay indoors and monitor further messages.
On Tuesday, shortly before noon, emergency messages about a possible threat in the airspace were sent out again in the regions of Ludza and Kraslava.
The information appeared on the website "112.lv."
The National Armed Forces reported that there is a possible threat in the airspace of Latvia.
Residents of the eastern regions were urged to stay indoors, follow the principle of two walls, close windows and doors, and not to approach any suspicious or low-flying objects, but to call 112 instead.
The NAF emphasizes that they, together with NATO allies, continue to monitor the airspace constantly and are ready to respond immediately in case of a threat.
Additionally, air defense units have been reinforced on Latvia's eastern border.
The military reminds that as long as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, there remains a risk of repeated incidents where foreign drones may approach Latvian airspace or cross the border.
For the residents of Latgale, such warnings are becoming regular.
In recent months, the mobile alert system has been activated several times — most often following reports of possible drones related to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Several such drones have already fallen on Latvian territory. The most high-profile incident occurred on May 7, when a drone exploded at an oil depot in Rezekne.
Although no injuries have occurred as a result of such incidents, the political consequences have been serious. After the incident in Rezekne, the Minister of Defense resigned, followed by the collapse of the government of Evika Silina.
In light of the repeated alerts, local governments in Latgale have already begun developing separate action algorithms for schools, services, and residents in case of similar threats.
The NAF promises to inform separately about the end of the threat regime.
