A passenger of a suburban train in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg left a box with 20 tarantulas on the train. This was reported by Bild, citing law enforcement.
The incident occurred on a train traveling from Herrenberg to Tübingen. The train driver discovered a box labeled with information about its contents and subsequently called federal police officers. The cargo was handed over to law enforcement at Tübingen's central station.
According to the police, the box contained 20 Brazilian tarantulas of the species Avicularia geroldi, each placed in a separate package.
By the way, despite its name, the tarantula, or as it is sometimes called, the bird-eater, does not only feed on bird meat. It can also dine on other insects and mammals.
It is also reported that the note attached to the box contained information about the owner and confirmation of compliance with species protection requirements.
Police officers contacted the woman, after which she retrieved the animals. The reasons for leaving the box on the train have not been specified.
