During the Maslenitsa celebrations in Liepaja, a man displayed Soviet symbols

During the Maslenitsa celebration on Sunday, February 22, in Liepaja on Libiešu Street, a man was detained for displaying Soviet symbols, reported Madara Šeršņova, a senior specialist in the public relations department of the State Police.

The man was wearing a T-shirt featuring the abbreviation in Russian CCCP (USSR), as well as the hammer and sickle along with a five-pointed star.

The law provides for liability for the use of flags of the former USSR, former union republics, and Nazi Germany in public places, as well as for uniforms and their elements used by the armed forces and repressive agencies, coats of arms and anthems, the Nazi swastika, SS symbols, and Soviet symbols — the hammer and sickle along with a five-pointed star.

An administrative offense process has been initiated against the man.

According to the Administrative Responsibility Law, the use of the specified symbols in public places can result in a warning or a fine for individuals of up to 350 euros, and for legal entities — up to 2900 euros.

According to publicly available information, last Sunday, the Russian community celebrated Maslenitsa on Libiešu Street.
