The number of people with a net worth exceeding one million dollars continues to grow worldwide. Over the past year, there are nearly two million more of them, and the total wealth of this group has reached a historic high.
The number of dollar millionaires in the world increased to 25.3 million people last year. This data is provided by the consulting company Capgemini, linking the growth primarily to the rise in stock prices in global markets.
Over the year, the number of individuals with a net worth of at least one million dollars grew by nearly two million people. At the same time, the total volume of their assets also increased by 8.7%, reaching a record 98.3 trillion dollars.
The largest number of millionaires still resides in the United States. Over the year, their numbers increased by another 736,000 people, bringing the total to 8.7 million. This also represents the most significant growth among all countries in the world.
It is important to note that the increase in the number of millionaires does not mean that the incomes of the population are rising at the same pace. In this case, it primarily concerns the value of assets — stocks, investments, and other financial instruments.
Following the United States in terms of the number of millionaires are Japan, Germany, and China. Together, these four countries account for nearly two-thirds of all millionaires in the world — 65.7%.
Especially rapidly last year, the number of ultra-wealthy individuals increased. This refers to those with fortunes exceeding 30 million dollars. Over the year, their numbers grew by 9.4%, which was higher than the overall growth rate of millionaires.
The trend shows that the growth of financial markets continues to increase the wealth of affluent investors. As a result, the gap between ordinary wealthy individuals and the owners of the largest fortunes continues to widen.
