Every third laborer: The Central Statistical Bureau counted Ukrainians arriving on the labor front of Latvia

As of the beginning of 2026, 10,500 citizens of Ukraine are registered as employees in Latvia, bb.lv was informed by the Latvian Central Statistical Bureau.

Compared to the beginning of 2025, the number of employed Ukrainians increased by 1,200.

Ukrainians are most often employed in industry — 22.2%, in finance, insurance, scientific and administrative services, as well as real estate operations — 12.9%, in accommodation and food services — 12.1%, in wholesale and retail trade — 10.7%, and 10.1% work in construction.

Only one Ukrainian out of 90 has climbed the career ladder to a managerial level. 37.4% are employed in simple professions — office, hotel, and other premises cleaners, kitchen workers, shelf stockers, etc. 16.1% are skilled workers and craftsmen, 11.6% are service and trade workers, 10.1% are equipment and machine operators and assemblers, and 1.1% are managers.

Guests of our republic not only work but also study. More than 4,000 citizens of Ukraine are registered and continue their education in Latvian educational institutions.

As of the beginning of 2026, about 3,800 children were registered in preschool and general education institutions, about 200 students in vocational education institutions, and just over 200 students in higher education institutions among citizens of Ukraine with temporary protection status.
