The Latvian airline airBaltic will suspend the flights between Kaunas and Riga that started in late March in May.
Due to rising costs, this route has become economically unfeasible and will be canceled starting May 7, the company announced on Friday.
"Fuel costs have risen to the point where we decided to suspend the route rather than raise ticket prices to a level that would make them unaffordable for our passengers. It was a difficult but necessary decision," said Mantas Vrublyauskas, the company's vice president for route management.
As reported, airBaltic began summer season flights from Riga to Kaunas on March 30. At that time, the company stated that the new route would allow passengers from Kaunas to reach major cities in Europe via Riga.
According to the company, Kaunas remains an important market, and development opportunities at the city's airport will be considered after fuel prices stabilize. We look forward to it!
